College Preparation

Rancho Milpitas Middle School offers free access to counseling and guidance services to all students with aim of developing successful learning environments for all.  School counseling can offer a variety of programs to benefit your a student's socio-emotional well-being, academic growth, positive personal and social development, communication, and leadership qualities. 

Here are a few areas where counseling may be of help for middle school students:

Social Skills

  • How to promote positive peer relations

  • Learning how to make friends

  • How to make choices

  • Learn how to give and take compliments

  • How to take another person’s perspective

​Anxiety

  • Identifying stressors

  • How stressors affect your body and mind

  • Learning relaxation techniques and coping skills

  • Learning how to ask for help

  • Resources available in different settings

Study Skills

  • How to set realistic and obtainable goals

  • Learning organizational skills

  • Become familiar with time management

  • Become aware of different learning styles and individual preferences of learning

Anger Management

  • Becoming aware of what makes one angry

  • Becoming aware of how my body feels

  • How to make good choices

  • Learning how to make and maintain friendships

Self-Esteem

  • Learning the importance of positive self-talk

  • Learning about personal qualities and weaknesses

  • Increasing self-worth and confidence

  • Becoming aware of similarities and differences among people

Grief/Loss

  • Developing coping skills

  • Understanding the stages of grief/loss

A-G Requirements

These are high school courses you need to take for college admission. These courses include: History, English, Math, Laboratory Science, Visual & Performing Arts, and Foreign Language. Know your "a-g" as you prepare for college opportunities:

a. HISTORY AND SOCIAL SCIENCE

2 years (1 year of U.S. History and 1 year of Social Science)

b. ENGLISH

4 years required

c. MATH

3 years (4 years recommended)

d. LABORATORY SCIENCE

2 years with a lab class

e. LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH

(Foreign Language) 2 years of the same language

f. VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS

1 year

g. COLLEGE PREPARATORY ELECTIVES

1 year of any college preparatory subject
